Water Conservation Tips
-
Fix leaking faucets.

-
Wash full loads of laundry and dishes.

-
Check toilets for leaks and if you do not have a low flow toilet place a
water disbursement device into the tank.
-
Keep drinking water in the refrigerator to keep it cold instead of running
the faucet.
-
Shorten your showers by a minute or two and save up to 1,800 gallons of
water per person per year.

-
Minimize running water when brushing your teeth, shaving, or washing
dishes.
-
Use a shut off nozzle on outdoor hoses.
-
Use a broom, not a hose to clean of driveways and sidewalks.

-
Use drought tolerant trees, shrubs, and flowers.
-
Wash your vehicle at a commercial car wash.

-
If you have a sprinkler system, make sure that it is in good working order
at the beginning of the season. Run the system and check for leaks, missing
spray heads, and overspray onto driveways and walkways. Program your system
properly.
-
Don’t water when it rains, when it is windy, or in the hottest part of the
day. Your lawn only needs 1” to 2” of water a week, this includes rain.

-
Wrap hot water pipes with insulation so that you waste less while the
water heats up.
-
When purchasing appliances, look for energy efficient models.
